TENORI MIKA NISULA

”Holy cow! What a voice!…”

Tenor Mika Nisula

”It is so very rare that I have the pleasure of discovering and announcing a truly major talent, but Mika Nisula is one of those. This is, without question, one of the biggest, darkest tenor voices you’ll ever hear singing…” (Fanfare magazine)

Tenor Mika Nisula is earning international recognition as an important young artist, having made his American debut as Canio in Leoncavallo’s I Pagliacci in 2012 conducted by Maestro Anton Coppola.
With his “exceptionally rare and beautiful tenor voice” as described by Helsinki Sanomat, Mika has won numerous awards in prominent vocal competitions, including the Timo Mustakallio Voice Competition (1st place), Lohja tenor competition (2nd place), Jyväskylä International Tenor Competition (3rd place), Lappeenranta Voice Competiton (2nd place) and most recently the Altamura/Caruso International Voice Competition in New York (2nd place). Besides Canio, Nisula has also perfomed the roles of Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana (New York, 2013), Beppo (I Pagliacci) in the Finnish National Opera, Der Sänger in R. Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier (in concert), Don Ottavio in Mozart’s Don Giovanni for Tampere Opera, Orphee and Styx in Offenbach’s Orphee aux Enfers for Vaasa Opera and Belmonte in Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail with Seinäjoki City Orchestra.

A consummate recitalist and concert performer, Mika Nisula has performed the tenor solos in Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Mozart’s Requiem for Seinäjoki City Orchestra (Finland), Schumann’s Missa Sacra for Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra under John Storgårds, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle and a solo recital for the Savonlinna Opera Festival. Furthermore, Mika has a vast repertoire of song music which he has performed in numerous concerts in Finland and abroad.

Upcoming engagements include singing ia. Verdi’s Requiem with Kemi City Orchestra (March 2016), Cavaradossi in Puccini’s Tosca, Don José, a special performance at the Roman Vatican in October 2015 and concert tours in the United States, Poland and Italy.

Originally from Teuva, Finland, Mika Nisula has been studying at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

Nisula has made 4 cd recordings; Storia d’Amore , 2008 (Finnish and Italian song music by ia. Merikanto, Kuula, Bixio and Tosti); Armolaulu, 2009 (religious song music); Taas kaikki kauniit muistot, 2009 (Christmas songs); and a cd with Petrarca’s 3 sonnets by Liszt and Schumann’s Dichterliebe (2011). Furthermore he has made a guest appearance on the album Joulunlegenda of internationally acclaimed organist Kalevi Kiviniemi’s, next to soprano Karita Mattila and bass Matti Salminen.
